The 64th Armor Regiment traces its roots to 1941 and the 758th Tank Battalion, the Army’s first tank battalion with African American enlisted soldiers, which fought in Italy during World War II. Redesignated the 64th Tank Battalion, it served with the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. Its battalions later served in Cold War Germany, the Gulf War, and Iraq, including the 2003 advance into Baghdad. Its distinctive black elephant crest and motto, “We Pierce,” reflect a proud heritage of armored warfare
